On January 28, 2016, the Federal Communications Commission (Commission) adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that proposes revisions intended to strengthen the Emergency Alert System (EAS) by facilitating state and local involvement, supporting greater testing and awareness of the system, leveraging technological advances, and enhancing EAS security.1 The NPRM sets deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 45 and 75 days after publication in the Federal Register.2
On March 24, 2016, a summary of the NPRM was published in the Federal Register.3 Accordingly, comments will be due on or before May 9, 2016, and reply comments on or before June 7, 2016. Complete comment filing instructions are set forth in the NPRM and Federal Register.4
